Podcast: Play in new window | Download

You might not believe in ads battling it out however they do. The ad battle is between what Facebook wants to charge you and what you want to pay.

Facebook wants as much money as they can get for each click of a Facebook ad. They need to make money and increase that stock price.

On our side of the fence we want to pay as little as we can for each click we receive.

In today’s podcast we discuss how to choose between CPC and CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) when you are doing Facebook ads. Just over 12 months ago we were always in favor of CPC however in this call you will discover how you can get the best of FB with what we share.

In the podcast you will discover:

  • How to decide which method of bidding CPC (Cost per Click) or CPM is best for your business and your situation.
  • Why one method of bidding may not allow you to spend a single $$$ on Facebook even when you are begging for FB trafic
  • How to do some simple math to figure out which method is going to cost you less now and in the future.

After you listen to the podcast share your thoughts with us here.

To your success,

3 Key Items to Watch For Before You Spend a Single Dollar on FB Ads

June 18, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

When you want to start using FB ads to generate sales for your business there are steps to take to make sure you don’t lose your shirt.

Facebook can be a great place to start a relationship with customers. It can also be a place that you may want to avoid because your business isn’t suited for Facebook.

So before we get into the three key items a few rules to look at your business before you start looking at Facebook ads:

  • Do people talk about your business?
  • Do people have a passion for what you do and the service that you provide?
  • Are your customers easily identifiable either by geography, demographic feature or designation?

When you can answer yes to at least 2 out of the 3 questions above you have an opportunity to put the 3 key items to work for your business on Facebook.

  1. Know your best customer. This happens before you click into your Facebook account. Write out what your best customer has in common. For example one of our clients their target market is women, aged 28-35, who are single, active, and are located within 15 miles of their store. The more you know about your target client the better off you are going to be.
  2. Advertising separately to different demographic & geographic groups. One of the biggest mistakes we see in FB advertising accounts is customers targeting “women” or “men” and not separating out “single women” or “relationship women”. You also have to separate out by age as well. Individuals who have kids compared to those who don’t should also have a separate ad.
  3. Track your results. Whether you are sending the traffic to your website or to your Facebook Fan Page tracking your results is critical for success. Facebook does not provide tracking code for you. We recommend using a third party tool to provide the tracking for you.

When you advertising for sales on Facebook keep in mind you are building a relationship. Don’t ask for the sale immediately. Start providing them great information and a way to have a conversation with you before you ask for the sale.

What you will discover with Facebook ads is you can find a new great source of passionate customers for your business when you target them correctly.

Email Marketing…Increase Open Rate with Great Subject Lines

June 13, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

Increase Response Rates of Email for More Income

Increase Response Rates of Email for More Income

Quite often business owners, entrepreneurs, and even your staff will spend countless hours worrying about the content of an email but take just minutes to consider the subject of a message.  The subject of an email is what dictates if your message even gets opened!  Imagine spending all of those hours on the content of your message only for someone to make just a single click on “delete”.

Crafting the right email subject line is akin to crafting a powerful headline that will be on a sales letter or landing page.  Taking time on a headline is always time well spent; spend that same amount of time on an email subject line and watch your open rates soar.

After sending over 1,000,000 million emails (yes small in the grand scheme of email marketing) we have uncovered patterns that result in getting people to eagerly open messages.  Some of the email subject lines we have written had our clients scratching their heads wondering “what are they thinking?” but they were happy when they noticed the response rate.

To give you the edge in crafting powerful subject lines for your emails consider two key elements.

1.  Pique Interest to Make People Want to Find Out More

To pique the interest of your prospects challenge yourself to think differently about what you are communicating.  Think of the subject line as a headline or even the beginning of a conversation; it better make you want to find out more.

Most people would write subject lines like the following:

“The End of Season Savings Event is Happening Now”

“Top 10 Reasons to Attend X Event”

These subject lines are boring and unless a prospect really trusts you won’t get opened.  Consider transforming your messages to be so different that people will have to click to find out more.  The above subject lines could certainly be the following:

“an end of season event that will make your friends jealous”

“avoid 12 months of regret, discover more about X event”

The more interest piquing your email messages the more your prospect can’t resist opening the message.  When the subject is too boring you never get a chance to share more information.  Be bold to pique interest and watch your open rates soar.

2. Be Different…in the Smallest of Details

There is no doubt that email is a great form of communication.  Just because email makes it easy to communicate though doesn’t mean it has to be boring!  As a quick test, open your email inbox right now and look at the email subject lines.

Which subject lines make you actually want to open the email?

Likely very few of the email subjects will grab your attention.   The overuse of exclamation points and capitalization makes most inboxes a maze where the machete is the delete key.  To grab the attention of your prospects be very different.

A small detail that has a big impact is the length of your email subject line.  While “standards” dictate a wide range of length, consider that a subject line that gets truncated isn’t likely to get opened.  A length of 50 characters or less is one that will give you a clear opportunity to communicate your message and get them to open your email.

Crafting the right subject line isn’t a task that is going to take three minutes.  Every time you write an email subject line you are doing far more than just spreading the word about your “brand”.  The right email subjects give you an opportunity to break through the haze of messages and reach your next customer.  Before you send that next message take a moment and see if it really does pique interest, if it would stand out in a crowd of 104 other messages and when you can answer “yes it does” then you are on the right path to success with email.

Quick Tips to Booking Appointments on the Phone

June 12, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

Getting More Appointments from Your Phone Calls

Getting More Appointments from Your Phone Calls

Getting appointments on the phone is part of many industries.  From insurance sales, real estate, to business to business, getting appointments is critical.  In some industries if you can’t book appointments over the phone you will be showed the way out the door!  Sadly most training that “advises” people how to get appointments over the phone is flawed.

There are trainers that suggest you should start calling at 5am to beat your competition to the punch.  There are telemarketing scripts that you have talking about your company in the first 7 words of a conversation (hint: they don’t care about your company).  Some people even make excuses based on who you call; CEO vs. the IT Manager.

What I want you to consider is the following:

  • It doesn’t matter who you call
  • Mentioning your company name at the beginning of a conversation is a waste of time
  • Calling “before” your competition isn’t important

Setting appointments over the phone is bigger than trickery.  The “brand” of your company isn’t important to your prospect on the initial call.  If your brand was really important, the prospect would have reached out to you first, you wouldn’t be making the call.

Regardless of who you are calling and what you are selling, I would invite you to consider the following three tips to getting more appointments on the phone.

  1. Share your marketing message – Your marketing message is what will compel a prospect to take your call and listen.  Your marketing message should carefully reveal how you can save a prospect time, money, or both in less than 10 seconds.  This is bigger than a slogan or a catch phrase as the immediate benefit of your offering should be clear to the prospect.
  2. Pique their interest through questions – Statements leave you hearing the dial tone while questions will get the sale and appointment.  Instead of sharing the benefits of your product/service on the phone, pique their interest through questions.  When your questions reveal how they could benefit by using your service they will want to find out more by setting a time to meet one on one.
  3. Give them two appointment times – Asking someone when they would like to meet is a formula to get rejected.  Make it easy on your prospect and provide them two times to meet.  When you provide them two options they will look to see WHEN they can fit you in to their calendar, not IF.  By simply asking “would a Tuesday at 4pm work better or a Friday at 10am?” your conversion rate can jump by more than 40%.

Getting appointments over the phone isn’t about bullying your way through the secretary, sending fruit baskets, or sweet talking someone.  You can set appointments over the phone in minutes when you share a marketing message, pique interest, and give them two options of meeting times.

Interest Piquing Updates for Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

June 12, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment

Your Updates can Stand Out from the CrowdThe social networks are often notorious for “junk” when it comes to status updates.  People share their lunch, where they had coffee and even their savings at the grocery store!  Who really cares about any of these items?

Most status updates are sent from a phone or computer and go into the vortex that is social networking.  The lifespan of an update released on Twitter or Facebook can usually be measured in just a few seconds.  Of course, they are only measured in seconds when you don’t have the right approach.  When you want status updates that get attention and can be translated into sales, then you need to look a bit deeper into what you are sharing.

Popular people like Lady Gaga can share a status update like “lady gaga + steven klein= une Pièce de résistance. Alejandro” and receive almost 1,800 comments and over 13,000 people “liking” it.  If most businesses shared something as cryptic as that they would be lucky to get a single comment!  So what is the magic sauce to creating status updates that get attention?

There isn’t one formula to creating status updates that pique interest; get people to click and generate sales, however there are key elements to success.  I invite you to consider the following guidelines and you just might get a few thousand people taking note of what you share.

Interest Piquing Updates on Facebook allow you to dominate the News Feed and Generate Sales

  1. What is important to your customers? Artists like Lady Gaga understand that her fans love to stay in the loop on her music. Not just “buy my album” but where she is playing, what she is up to, and peaks back stage.  Understanding what your customers crave will put you in the direction of creating comments that people crave.
  2. What would shock your customers? Most people think that offering a staggering sale is the only item that will grab attention, but this is rarely the case.  Think of something that would challenge your industry and write comments around that.  For instance in the field of insurance, maybe you release an update that states there are times where you DON’T need insurance.  That would be crazy!  Simply consider what challenges the “norm” and then write updates along those lines.
  3. When in doubt, ask questions and share links – Questions are one of the most powerful ways to get attention with your status updates.  It’s natural for people to ask questions and people love giving their opinion!  By asking interest piquing questions you can get customers flocking from their news feeds to share their opinion.  To get even more impact from your questions consider sharing a link.  Maybe send them to your fan page or blog to have them weigh in with the rest of your raving friends.

With big networks like Twitter and Facebook your status updates may have a short life span, but it doesn’t mean they can’t bring you business.  When you reveal status updates that pique interest and give your customers more of what they crave you will be able to translate that attention into sales.

"Joey taught me all kinds of stuff but I think the most important was how to interact and engage with people in a way that is suited to and works on Facebook. Social networking is a novel technology and it wasn't at all obvious to me how to do it, even though I don't find the technical aspects of fan pages etc very hard. My business is well suited to Facebook but prior to the Fan Page system I didn't have any idea what I was doing with it. Now we have a system to engage with clients in a sustainable and profitable way. Thanks so much!!!"
